Artificial intelligence technologies are advancing rapidly, with large-scale models, computer vision, knowledge graphs, and other innovations increasingly being integrated into the engineering and construction sectors. In Anhui Province, in line with the requirements for implementing “AI+” applications, a unified intelligent construction platform has been established—built on BIM (Building Information Modeling) as its foundation and powered by AI (artificial intelligence)—leveraging an engineering general contracting management model.

Currently, artificial intelligence technologies are advancing rapidly, with large-scale models, computer vision, knowledge graphs, and other innovations increasingly being integrated into the construction engineering sector. In response to the need to implement “AI+” applications, Anhui Province has leveraged an engineering general contracting management model to develop an integrated smart-construction platform—built on BIM (Building Information Modeling) as its foundation and powered by AI (Artificial Intelligence). This platform seamlessly connects data across all key elements of the construction site—people, equipment, materials, methods, and the environment—enabling a shift in construction management toward intelligent analysis, automated early warning, and closed-loop control. As a result, it provides a replicable model for driving digital transformation in the construction industry.

According to the introduction, the platform addresses key pain points in construction management for engineering general contracting projects by integrating BIM, IoT, computer vision, and other technologies. It has developed more than 40 smart‑construction site modules, collects data from heterogeneous smart‑site systems provided by different vendors, and consolidates this information in a central data hub for cleansing, analysis, and early warning. This enables real-time monitoring and dynamic management of on‑site personnel, equipment, materials, methods, and environmental factors. The platform also offers lightweight online visualization of the project’s full‑scale BIM model, deeply integrating safety, quality, schedule, technical, and drawing‑related business data with BIM. Users can intuitively track the progress and completion status of each individual building component, while leveraging plan‑variance alerts to implement targeted control measures.

To meet the intelligent‑application needs of diverse scenarios, the platform integrates an AI application development platform and an AI visual middleware. The AI development platform supports large‑model integration and knowledge‑graph construction, enabling rapid deployment of scenario‑specific AI applications that can be flexibly tailored to business requirements. Meanwhile, the AI visual middleware connects to a wide range of image‑capture devices, providing real-time intelligent monitoring of construction sites, detecting rule violations, and issuing instant alerts to strengthen safety safeguards.

Centered on core construction management functions, the platform has developed multiple AI‑driven applications to reinvent traditional management workflows. In schedule management, by establishing a standardized knowledge base of historical project data and integrating it with the boundary conditions of new projects, the system leverages intelligent algorithms to automatically calculate standard durations, sequence key milestones, and optimize resource allocation. It can generate a three‑level on‑site work schedule with a single click, reducing the time required for plan preparation to just 10–15 minutes and significantly shortening the overall planning cycle.

In quality management, leveraging large-scale models and retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) technology to build an engineering quality knowledge base enables sub‑second matching of relevant policies, standards, and similar historical cases, supporting field personnel in conducting root‑cause analysis and developing corrective actions. The time required to retrieve and evaluate documentation for a single issue has been reduced to 3–5 minutes, boosting review and analysis efficiency by more than 50%.

In the realm of safety management, a comprehensive, AI‑driven intelligent safety control system has been established, spanning the entire chain from perception and identification to early warning and response. By leveraging automated AI‑powered image capture, real-time alert notifications, and closed-loop incident handling, coupled with on-site public‑address systems for immediate dissemination of warnings, this system ensures prompt, precise delivery of alerts, significantly enhancing both the efficiency and reach of safety oversight.

In contract review, an AI‑assisted review system has been implemented. Each week, 16 subcontract agreements are reviewed, with an average of over 10 recommendations provided per contract, reducing the review cycle from seven days to approximately four days and significantly improving turnaround efficiency.

In the area of scheme management, leveraging domain-specific knowledge bases and pre-built templates, large‑model instruction fine-tuning enables rapid generation of draft schemes, with automated verification and cross‑checking against cited regulations. The time required to produce a single draft has been reduced to 0.5–1 hour, significantly shortening the overall drafting process and enabling intelligent preparation and assisted review of construction technical schemes.

According to reports, the platform fosters collaboration across the industry chain, seamlessly integrating construction design, material procurement, intelligent construction, and digital operations and maintenance, while enabling comprehensive data aggregation, analysis, and visual presentation throughout a project’s entire lifecycle. To date, it has been deployed in a number of projects, including the Nanxun Elephant Hotel, Hefei Safety Valley, and Zhong’an Innovation Valley. As AI technologies continue to mature, the platform will further drive business process reengineering, unlock the potential of intelligent construction to enhance quality and efficiency, and support the industry’s high‑quality development.
